Wall Street Journal: The Art of Quitting Early on Fridays

In this article in The Wall Street Journal, I shared my tips for how to create your own Summer Friday, even if you don’t have a formal policy. Here are some of the tips I mention in the article:

  1. Create a MIT list (Most Important Things) so you know what to focus on and can feel more comfortable ending the day once you accomplish your tasks.

  2. Negotiate deadlines around new asks so you can create flexibility to complete on a timeline that works for your Summer Friday plans.

  3. If you’ve taken off early, scan your inbox and reply to emails from key stakeholders assuring them you have seen the email and sharing back your proposed deadline.

  4. Always get receipts when you agree to a deadline, in case your boss forgets what they agreed to due to their overzealousness.
